Collection: María Helguero Cañedo-Argüelles
This artist (Madrid, 1960) has dedicated herself to painting since she was young. She began with charcoal drawing in the studio of the painter María del Rosario Álvarez de Sotomayor on Calle Espalter. In those drawings, one could already see her ease and skill with the figure, which would become one of her favorite subjects.
Soon, drawing became a means of preparation for eventually transferring these compositions to canvases, where oil painting allowed him to explore light and color in greater depth. It was at the Peña Academy that he took the leap to also begin painting natural landscapes, which would become his second favorite subject .
Although he never abandoned painting, for many years he was unable to dedicate the time he needed to become a professional. Nevertheless, he continued to create self-taught works, primarily focused on landscapes and figures, in which he refined his technique .
During the last decade, in order to acquire greater skill and boost his ingenuity, he has joined the De Cinti-Villalón Academy, where portraiture, for which he has always felt a special interest, has been added to his usual production .
Alongside his studies, he has exhibited his work on several occasions: Calle Monteleón (1987); “Negresse”, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid (2008); College of Civil Engineers, Madrid (2013); Modotti Gallery, Fuenterrabía, Guipúzcoa (2014), Embassy of Chile in Berlin (2016); “Las Bridas”, Madrid (2017/2018); “La Hermandad”, Fuenterrabía, Guipúzcoa (2018/2019).
